Chennai Super Kings have arguably had their worst performance in an IPL season. The team has stayed constantly at the bottom of the table in 2025 and even their fortress, the Chepauk, has been breached by teams, with RCB, DC, PBKS, SRH, and KKR defeating them pretty convincingly.
While RCB beat them for the first time in Chennai since 2008, DC beat for the first time since 2010. SRH scripted history by claiming their first-ever win at the venue. More than the records, CSK has seemingly shown no intent as a batting unit. A primary reason behind their failures has been attributed to a poor auction strategy. The franchise retained players like Ravindra Jadeja (INR 18 crore) and Shivam Dube (INR 12 crore), however, they could not live up to the expectations.
Likewise, some of their players, like veteran spinner R Ashwin also could not deliver the goods. Amidst all this, an Indian Express report claims that many youngsters’ names suggested by the team’s talent scouts were were overlooked by the CSK management in the IPL auction.
Did the CSK management commit a mistake by ignoring scouts’ recommendations?
Reportedly, the CSK scouts had recommended the management to target Priyansh Arya, who lit up the IPL 2025. However, he was not considered by the team at the auction. Arya has been one of the best openers this season as he has consistently provided brilliant starts to Punjab Kings alongside Prabhsimran Singh.
In 10 innings, the southpaw has scored 346 runs at a sensational strike rate of 196.59. Similarly, there were other names which were suggested by the talent scouts but were overlooked by CSK’s coaches, officials, captain, senior members, and others in the CSK management.
Notably, CSK has previously let go of talents like Sai Sudharsan and Varun Chakravarthy despite their scouts’ recommendations. Instead of the suggested names, the CSK management went for the players who had more experience or a previous association with the franchise.
