ENG vs IND [WATCH]: Akash Deep cleans up Joe Root with a jaffa on Day 4 of Edgbaston Test

On Day 4 of the second Test at Edgbaston, with England chasing an almost impossible fourth-innings target of 608, Akash Deep delivered a peach of a delivery to dismiss Joe Root,  a moment that could prove to be a defining one in this crucial match.

Akash Deep castles Joe Root with a stunning delivery in Edgbaston Test

Akash produced a moment of brilliance that will be remembered for long,  a perfect combination of seam, angle, and precision. Bowling the second delivery of the 11th over, he came from wide of the crease and released the ball with a sharp inward angle, targeting the off-stump line. Root, lured into playing across the line, slightly closed the bat face anticipating it to hold its line or nip in. But Akash had other plans,  the ball pitched full, gripped, and jagged away off the seam at the last instant.

The late movement completely deceived Root, squared him up, and went past the outside edge in a flash. In no time, the off stump was lying flat behind him, and England’s batter had no answer. It was the kind of delivery every fast bowler dreams of,  beautifully set up and ruthlessly executed. The dismissal sent shockwaves through the England camp and ignited the Indian unit with raw energy. For Akash Deep, it was not just a wicket,  it was a statement. His delivery epitomized the skill and temperament required to succeed at the highest level in Test cricket.

India on the driving seat against England at stumps on Day 4

India edged closer to a comprehensive victory on Day 4 of the second Test at Edgbaston. Starting the day with a healthy lead of 244 runs, the Indian batters once again delivered a commanding performance. Skipper Shubman Gill led from the front with a magnificent 161, well supported by half-centuries from Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant. Earlier, KL Rahul laid the foundation with a gritty 55, giving India a strong start. The dominant batting display allowed India to set a mammoth target of 608 runs for the hosts.

In reply, England got off to a disastrous start, losing Zak Crawley for a duck, followed by quick dismissals of Ben Duckett and Root. The fiery Indian pace attack never allowed the English batters to settle at the crease. With just one day left and England still needing over 500 runs with only 7 wickets in hand, the task ahead looks all but impossible for the home side. India now stands on the brink of a memorable win.
