ENG vs IND [WATCH]: Mohammed Siraj removes Ollie Pope and Joe Root LBW with sharp inswingers on Day 2 of the Oval Test

Two crucial wickets in similar fashion gave India a brief sigh of relief on Day 2 of the fifth Test. Mohammed Siraj first struck with a searing delivery that jagged back in to trap stand-in skipper Ollie Pope leg-before. Later, he removed the in-form Joe Root with another sharp in-seamer that kept a bit low and caught Root on the pads. The double blow offered India a much-needed lift during an otherwise testing session with the ball.

In the 25th over of the second innings, Siraj delivered a beauty that handed India a much-needed breakthrough during a tough session. The ball pitched on a good length just outside off, jagged back in sharply, and struck Pope on the back pad before he could react. Pope was stuck on the crease, completely beaten by the pace and movement. The on-field umpire looked uncertain, but Siraj was confident and immediately called for a review. Hawk-Eye confirmed his instincts with three reds, sending Pope back for 22. The Indian players erupted with joy as the decision flashed on the big screen. It was a vital moment that lifted team morale and gave India a chance to shift the momentum.

Later in the session, Siraj once again delivered a beautiful piece of bowling to dismiss Root, handing India a vital breakthrough. The delivery pitched on a length outside off, nipped back in sharply, and stayed a bit low. Root, caught deep in his crease, was struck on the knee roll before he could bring his bat down. The confident appeal was reviewed by Root, but ball-tracking showed three reds. It was a well-earned reward for Siraj’s tireless and disciplined spell.
