ENG vs IND [WATCH]: Washington Sundar entices Ben Stokes into playing a false shot on Day 4 of Lord’s Test

India tightened their grip on the third Test at Lord’s as Washington Sundar produced a crucial breakthrough, enticing England captain Ben Stokes into a false shot and bowling him for 33 on Day 4.

Washington Sundar lures Ben Stokes into a false shot

The pivotal moment arrived in the 55th over of England’s second innings. Sundar, who had already claimed the key wickets of Joe Root and Jamie Smith, delivered a length ball that skidded through after pitching around off stump. Stokes, who had battled for 96 deliveries, attempted an aggressive slog sweep but failed to connect. The ball snuck under his bat and crashed into the middle stump, sending the Indian fielders into jubilation and silencing the Lord’s crowd.

Stokes’ wicket was particularly significant as he was England’s last recognized batter at the crease. His dismissal left the hosts reeling, with Indian bowlers wrapping up the English side for 192 in their second innings.  Sundar’s performance (4/22) was instrumental in shifting the momentum back to the visitors after Root and Stokes briefly steadied England’s innings.

India wraps up England under 200

Earlier in the day, India’s seamers set the tone with a hyper-aggressive approach. Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep struck early, removing Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope, while Jasprit Bumrah maintained relentless pressure with the new ball. England, resuming at 98/4 after lunch, struggled to build partnerships as the pitch continued to show variable bounce and seam movement, testing the technique and patience of their batters.

Sundar’s double strike in the afternoon session—first bowling Root around his pads for 40, then cleaning up Smith for 8—further dented England’s resistance. By tea, England were 175/6, with Stokes unbeaten on 27 and Chris Woakes on 8.

Post tea, Bumrah and Sundar united to bowl out England under 200. Off-spinner Sundar finished with figures of 4/22 while Bumrah ended up with 2 for 38.
