IPL 2025: Fans go wild as KL Rahul powers Delhi Capitals to outclass Sanjiv Goenka’s Lucknow Super Giants at Ekana

In a dominating display of skill and composure, Delhi Capitals (DC) outclassed Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 8 wickets in the 40th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. With a solid half-century from Abishek Porel and a match-winning knock of 57 not out from KL Rahul, Delhi successfully chased down the target of 160 with 13 balls to spare. LSG’s top-order, led by Aiden Markram’s 52, fought hard but fell short due to a collapse in the middle order. The result saw Delhi return to winning ways, while LSG struggled in what was a below-par performance.

Lucknow Super Giants’ inconsistent batting display

Lucknow’s batting performance was inconsistent, with only Markram showing any significant resistance. The innings started promisingly with Markram and Mitchell Marsh (45) putting on a strong opening partnership, but their dismissals set the tone for a collapse. Despite a bright 36-run cameo from Ayush Badoni, LSG’s innings failed to gain momentum. The biggest talking point, however, was Rishabh Pant‘s decision to come out to bat at No. 7. Despite being the most expensive player in IPL 2025, Pant failed to deliver, dismissed for a duck in his brief stay at the crease. His decision to bat lower down the order raised several questions from fans, and his failure to make an impact left LSG with a subpar total of 159/6.

Delhi Capitals’ chase led by KL Rahul’s calmness and Axar Patel’s quickfire finish

In response, Delhi were clinical and calm throughout their chase. After the early loss of Karun Nair (15), Porel took charge, scoring a brilliant 51 off 36 balls. His knock, which included five boundaries and one six, set the platform for Rahul to finish the chase with style. Rahul’s composed 57 not out off 42 balls, coupled with a fiery knock of 34 not out from Axar Patel, sealed the victory for Delhi with 13 balls to spare. The pair shared a crucial unbeaten partnership, guiding Delhi to a comfortable win. LSG’s bowlers, particularly Markram and Ravi Bishnoi, struggled to make inroads, and the chase was completed with ease by Delhi, as they finished with 161/2 in 17.5 overs.
