His longevity and consistency set him apart, making him a role model for aspiring cricketers around the world.
Kevin Pietersen names the next Jacques Kallis of cricket
Naming the next Kallis may be a challenging task for many, but not for former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen. The Englishman recently revealed his pick regarding who he considers as the next Kallis in international cricket. He went with young India captain Shubman Gill. Pietersen admitted that although he hasn’t seen Gill’s recent batting firsthand, he has been keeping track of the young batter’s impressive record.
Pietersen praised Gill’s form, saying he had already predicted the Indian star’s rise and believes he has now proven himself. Emphasizing the need for self-belief and consistency, Pietersen drew a parallel with Kallis, noting that the South African legend also had a slow start to his career before going on to become one of the greatest cricketers the world has seen.
“Look, I have not seen his batting, but I am reading about his record, he has batted brilliantly. I am not surprised by Gill’s performance, I had already predicted it. He just needs to back it. Look, today he has proved himself. Look, Jacques Kallis also had a slow start in his career but later he became the greatest cricketer in the world,” Pietersen told ANI.

Indian star in the form of his life
Gill, who has taken over the Indian Test captaincy in the absence of senior players, is enjoying the purple patch of his career. In the ongoing five-match Test series against England, Gill has already amassed 585 runs in just two matches at an astonishing average of 146. His run-fest includes three centuries — one of which was a majestic double hundred in the Edgbaston Test, leading India to a series-levelling victory. Gill’s composed approach, shot selection, and growing leadership qualities have not only impressed fans and experts but also positioned him as the potential flagbearer of India’s batting legacy in the years to come.
