Former South African pacer Dale Steyn trolled himself after his prediction for the 33rd IPL 2025 game between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad went wrong on Thursday, April 17.
But the funniest hit was that the Mumbai Indians made the most of the opportunity to mock the Proteas legend. Actually, Dale Steyn’s bold prediction of the first-ever 300-run innings in IPL history went all wrong.

Dale Steyn predicted IPL’s first-ever 300 total in the MI vs SRH match
Last month, the former South African fast bowler had boldly predicted that Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) would score the IPL’s first-ever 300 in a single innings during their clash against Mumbai Indians on April 17 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Steyn made this prediction after SRH smashed a massive 286/6 in their season opener against Rajasthan Royals at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
Excited by that explosive start, he posted, X: “Small prediction. On April 17, we’ll see the first 300 in the IPL. Who knows, I might even be there to see it happen.”

But the IPL 2025 match between SRH and MI didn’t go as expected. By the halfway mark, SRH was struggling at 76/2, and Steyn’s hopes of a record total quickly faded.
Dale himself admitted that the 300-run dream was still out of reach, as he posted on X, “No 300 today, unfortunately.” Steyn later joked that one team might not hit 300, but both teams combined could still reach the total.
He said in another X post, “So we might still see 300 tonight; it’ll just be both teams together.” As soon as the MI vs SRH clash ended with the hosts winning the game by 4 fours, the five-time champions trolled the former South African pacer, mentioning the actual total.

MI vs SRH IPL 2025 Match Highlight
Speaking about the match, SRH posted 162/5 on the board after being asked to bat first by the MI on a slightly damp deck at the Wankhede Stadium. Abhishek Sharma showed some form with a 28-ball 40-run knock, while Heinrich Klaasen made 37 runs, and Will Jacks (2/14) starred with the ball.
Chasing the paltry target, MI started off well with Rohit Sharma hammering 26 runs off 16 balls while his opening partner, Ryan Rickelton, made 31 runs off 23 balls. Following a good start, Jacks (36), Suryakumar Yadav (16), Tilak Varma (21*), and Hardik Pandya (21) ensure MI gets two points.
However, the game stretched into the 19th over, but Mumbai managed to beat Hyderabad by four wickets to get the two crucial points to remain in the 7th spot in the IPL 2025 points table with six points. It was MI’s 29th win at the Wankhede Stadium while chasing the target, and that was the most by any team at a venue in the IPL while chasing.
SRH and MI will face each other once again in the ongoing IPL 2025 on April 23 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad, where Pat Cummins and his team would love to take revenge and make a comeback in the tournament after losing all away games so far.
