Sai Sudharsan retaliates against his own team after Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s onslaught

Gujarat Titans (GT) batter Sai Sudharsan was unimpressed with the team’s bowling performance following their defeat to Rajasthan Royals (RR) in IPL 2025. Sudharsan admitted that the team could have “executed better” after Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s early onslaught during the powerplay.

Gujarat Titans suffered an eight-wicket loss against the Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on April 28. The visitors posted a total of 209/4 after fifties from Shubman Gill (84 off 50) and Jos Buttler (50 off 26). Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi helped the team to victory inside 16 overs.

We cannot Be So Harsh on that – Sai Sudharsan

Sai Sudharsan said that the team shouldn’t be overly critical, but they missed opportunities, including a dropped catch of Yashasvi Jaiswal. The opener stated that it could have impacted the outcome of the match.

“We cannot be so harsh on that. But at the same time, definitely, we could have, we should have, and we could have taken that catch, and it could have made a big difference in the game,” Sudharsan told reporters at the post-match press conference.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Survives as Jos Buttler Drops an Easy Catch

Rajasthan Royals’ run chase against Gujarat Titans could have taken a different turn early on when Ishant Sharma forced Yashasvi Jaiswal into a miscued shot in the 2nd over. Wicketkeeper Jos Buttler called for the catch despite a nearby fielder being in position, but dropped it, which proved costly for the Titans.

Jaiswal scored 31 off 16 balls in the powerplay, while his 14-year-old opening partner, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, scored 52 off just 20 deliveries. Rajasthan had scored 87 runs in six overs without losing a wicket. The duo went on to add a 166-run stand in just 11.5 overs before Prasidh Krishna dismissed Suryavanshi.

Suryavanshi smashed 101 runs from 38 balls, including seven boundaries and 11 sixes. Jaiswal played the supporting role with an unbeaten 70 off 40 balls. Rajasthan completed the 210-run chase with more than four overs to spare.

We Could Have Reacted Well – Sai Sudharsan

Sai Sudharsan admitted that the team believed their score was at par. However, he added that the explosive start by the Rajasthan Royals proved them wrong. Sudharsan described Suryavanshi’s knock as “tremendous” and added that it was a delight to witness despite being on the fielding side.

“When we finished [batting], we felt it was par or ten runs over par, is what our feeling was. But the way they started and batted showed us that we were wrong. No credit taken [away] from Vaibhav, the way he batted was tremendous and fantastic to watch, [even though we were] fielding,” he said.

“But at the same time, we could have reacted well. The way they started the powerplay was brilliant, but we could have reacted well and had better plans,” Sai Sudharsan added.

Gujarat Titans suffered their third loss of the season in IPL 2025. With six wins, they have secured 12 points. The Shubman Gill-led team will play their next match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 2.
