‘Some will giggle at that’

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming has made a bold statement regarding the team’s comeback in IPL 2025. The Yellow Army is at the bottom of the points table with just two victories in eight matches. They have endured a rough campaign after winning the first game against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in Chennai.

CSK are reeling in the last position with a weak batting lineup, which has been the team’s major problem this season. The different opening pairs have also not worked while the middle-order has not shown much intent with the bat. The bowlers did a fine job in some matches, like against the Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals but that was not enough to get them past the victory line.

We won’t let any time go to waste: Stephen Fleming

The Super Kings are taking some inspiration from RCB’s performance in the previous season, where they had won just one out of eight matches but eventually went on to qualify for the playoffs, incidentally by beating the Men in Yellow in Bengaluru. Fleming said that the Super Kings will aim to pull off something like that, having had a forgettable tournament so far.

We’re still hopeful of winning 6 out of 6, and some will giggle at that, but RCB set a blueprint for that the year before,” said Fleming on the eve of CSK’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Chepauk on April 25.

The head coach stated the team’s current mindset is to waste no time as the margin for error is negligible. “There won’t be a wasted game or an opportunity in the next few weeks, and the players know that as well. And that creates opportunity and creates a bit of competition within. We won’t let any time go to waste,” added Fleming.
