England’s rising star Jacob Bethell created a memorable moment both on and off the field during the second T20I against West Indies at Bristol. Bethell responded to a heartfelt request from a fan in the stands, whose placard read, “Score a 6 for my grandma,”. As fate would have it, Bethell did just that, much to the delight of the crowd and, presumably, the fan watching.
Jacob Bethell’s heartwarming six delivers a special moment in England’s series-clinching victory
The moment came during the 16th over of England’s innings when the home side was chasing 197 for victory. Facing West Indies speedster Alzarri Joseph, Bethell unleashed a devastating display of power-hitting. On the second ball of the over, Joseph delivered an off-cutter wide outside off-stump. Bethell advanced, got underneath the ball, and muscled it straight down the ground for a towering six, fulfilling the fan’s wish and simultaneously putting the pressure squarely back on the bowler.
That maximum was Bethell’s second consecutive six of the over and was followed by another lusty blow, making it three sixes in the same over before he eventually perished on the final delivery. The southpaw’s rapid 26 off just 10 balls, including one four and three sixes, turned the tide in England’s favour. While his stay was brief, the timing and impact of his cameo were crucial in England’s successful chase of 196, which they completed with four wickets in hand, thereby sealing the series 2-0 with one game to spare.

A short but impactful stint for RCB in IPL 2025
While Bethell missed out on the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 playoffs and final due to national duties, his contribution to Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s title-winning campaign was both timely and memorable. He featured in just two matches for RCB, yet made a lasting impression, particularly in the league stage clash against Chennai Super Kings. In that game, Bethell opened the innings alongside the ever-dependable Virat Kohli and produced a scintillating knock under pressure. His 55 off 33 balls was filled with authority, as he smashed eight boundaries and two sixes, playing with a level of maturity beyond his years. In the two matches he played, Bethell scored 67 runs at a strike rate of 171.79, numbers that reflect his explosiveness and ability to adapt to high-intensity situations.
